Hi, I’m Sabrina!

Hello and Welcome! I am a Chinese-American high school senior. I am passionate about the sociology of food, and I love experimenting with Asian (especially Chinese) flavors in cooking and baking.

Growing up in America as a Chinese American means having a fluffy, Chinese sponge cake (chiffon cake) with fruits for birthdays instead of having a rich, buttercream frosted cake. “It’s too sweet!” was something I always heard when my family had a slice of my birthday cake. Since then, I’ve made it my goal to make something that my family can enjoy too.

My dad was the reason why I started baking. I have always admired how he worked in the kitchen, creating various Fuzhounese family style dishes. It reminds me that food and love is what brings people together, and it is what motivates me to bake.

Food, to me, is much more than a source of nutrition. Food is a way of expressing love, culture, and art. It communicates things that are lost in translation—things that can’t quite be expressed by language. And most importantly, it brings joy to everyone!
